Tonium Pacemaker

The Tonium Pacemaker is basically a sexy iPod for DJ’s. It’s got double-deck function, lcd display, 2 outputs, and a control wheel. It’s pretty much an electronic set up.

The Tonium Pacemaker On the top, you see an overview. The screen with four colours is the LCD display (At that stage it’s starting up). There you see what’s happening. You also see the <</>> buttons, for loop setting and song changing. The long skinny illuminated “thing” is a deck.Below that is the crossfader (you can’t see, but it’s a tiny indented line that’s touch sensitive) and the |> || button. This does two things: it plays the song, and introduces what Tonium calls a “DJ Skip”. This just is a tiny loop that you move around so that you find your cue point. Then you have the touch sensitive control wheel. By dragging in certain ways, you control what aspects of the song are being changed (Treble, Mid, Bass, Gain) On the left (you might not be able to see) is the “P” button, which basically, controls another combination of modifications (Roll, Reverb, Echo, Hi-Lo Cut). On the bottom left, you see another overview, and on the bottom right, you see the underside. This has your power charge input, line out output, and headphone output. I actually have one of these, and can safely say, it’s too awesome for me. For some vids, go to this link. There you can find your way. For the actual site, click here: Pacemaker

The Consumer DJ

I started this blog because I, like probably many other people, view the “sport” of DJing as interesting. Up until now, I had no clue what DJing truly was: was it making your music live or just playing music to an audience? Well, it’s both. Adding live effects to your music is the “crossfade” between the two. Say you were playing a funky house track, but it didn’t have enough flair: why not add some FX? Maybe a heavier bass, lower treble, and a hi-lo cut for good measure.

Now, this blog is designed to look at products and bits of the world that be, available easily to the consumer, not pro. No, we do not look at “how well the buttons work on the new X-KJ67D mixer”. We would look at the “shit, that’s so f***ing awesome” quotient. And I think I’ll start off with the brand new Tonium Pacemaker.
